All books reviewed at this blog were purchased by myself.
My quick and dirty ratings system goes something like this:
- It was a struggle to finish; I spent most of the time reading it fuming. I wouldn't recommend that anyone do anything but give it a pass.
- I probably had to walk away more than once to keep from getting frustrated, but something kept me coming back. It's still probably not something I would seek out again, though, and doesn't inspire me to pick up any sequels or other works by the author.
- Enjoyable, but something didn't gel. I'm not sorry I read it and will probably pick up any sequels, but I doubt I'd read it again.
- I really enjoyed it. Things came together well, and, though they were present, flaws didn't really detract from the story. I'll probably read this again at some point, and will definitely be following sequels and other works by the author.
- Love. Love, love, love. Everything worked, making it something to be devoured with unmitigated glee. Picking up sequels and other works by the author is certain, and I'm probably ready to reread it already.
My length classifications follow those of the Nebula awards:
Short Story: <7,500 words
Novelette: 7,500-17,500 words
Novella: 17,500-40,000 words
Novel: >40,000 words
